Projecting enrollment and managing budgets are two key components of any administrative position. As a band director within a large, very active music program, I have experience with these administrative tasks. As a teacher of an elective course, tracking enrollment was vital. Bands also require a great deal of equipment which must be budgeted for. Below are examples of work I've done in the areas of enrollment and budgeting.
This is a chart I brought back to my district after taking a graduate course. It is now used to track enrollment in our 4-12 music program which helps all of the directors to plan for proper instrumentation and for the district to anticipate staffing needs.
An important aspect of enrollment is encouraging students to continue in a program. I attend virtually all of the district's arts events to support both my colleagues and the students. These letters are examples of some that I have sent to elementary and middle school band students after their respective wioncerts.
My department had two large-scale projects planned for the 08-09 school year. One was the construction of a new Band Room and the other was a $100,000 lease-purchase plan for new instruments. This document identifies items needed to outfit the new room as well as instruments to be purchased.
As the Pit Orchestra Director for the annual Spring Musical I hire professional musicians to play with the students of the ensemble. I arrange payment for these contractors by creating and submitting invoices to the district business office. This is a sample invoice for this service.
Grants are an attractive alternative source of funding that can be used to supplement funding provided by the district. This is the proposal for a grant I was awarded by the local Education Foundation to provide an enrichment experience for my students.
